Local History Studies

April 9, 2024

By Liam

We were very lucky in the past few months to have not one, but two visits from a local historian and an archaeologist. Joe Creedon from Inchigeelagh visited us in February to talk about all things local history related and we learned loads about the origin of local placenames, the location of the old school well and about local characters such as Art Ó Laoghaire. We then welcomed archaeologist Áine Brosnan to Kilnadur and she gave us an introduction to archaeology and spoke about the different methods involved in gathering evidence. We also looked at local historical maps and located many historical monuments that are scattered around our locality.
